Reduced Gluteal Tone

Flat or soft buttocks — shaped by building the gluteal muscles without surgery.

Reduced gluteal tone describes buttocks that look flatter, softer or less lifted than you would like. Shape is largely set by the gluteal muscles underneath, and these can be hard to build through exercise alone. At Feonix Aesthetics in Coventry, EMSculpt Neo is used to build gluteal muscle and reduce fat in the treated area, after a consultation to check it is right for you.

What it is

The shape and lift of the buttocks come mainly from the gluteal muscles, with the fat layer and skin over them. When the muscles are less developed, the area can look flat or lack lift; when there is more fat, it can look softer and less defined.

This is a cosmetic body-shaping concern. It is different from cellulite, which affects the surface of the skin, and from loose skin, which muscle-building does not tighten.

More about Reduced Gluteal Tone

Why it happens

Genetics largely determine buttock shape. Long periods of sitting, inactivity and ageing reduce gluteal muscle tone, and weight changes alter how the area looks. The gluteal muscles can be difficult to isolate in the gym, which is why some people find them slow to change.

How we assess it at Feonix

At your consultation we look at the area, discuss your goals and take your medical history to check that treatment is suitable. EMSculpt Neo is not suitable during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, or for people with certain implants or devices, and some medical conditions mean it is not appropriate. If cellulite or loose skin is the main concern, we will explain that.

What treatment can and cannot do

EMSculpt Neo uses electromagnetic muscle stimulation with radiofrequency heating to build gluteal muscle and reduce fat in the treated area, helping to shape and lift the buttocks without injections or surgery. It is carried out over a course of sessions, with results developing over the following weeks.

Results vary from person to person and depend on maintaining your activity and weight. It does not treat cellulite or significantly loose skin. We explain the expected course and realistic outcome at your consultation.

Common questions about reduced gluteal tone

Can EMSculpt Neo lift the buttocks?

By building the gluteal muscles, EMSculpt Neo can improve the shape and lift of the buttocks without injections or surgery. How much change you see varies from person to person and is discussed at consultation.

Does it treat cellulite?

No. EMSculpt Neo works on muscle and fat; cellulite is a different concern affecting the surface of the skin, with its own page.

Who is it not suitable for?

It is not suitable during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, or for people with a pacemaker, defibrillator or other implanted electronic device, or certain metal implants in the treatment area. Full suitability is confirmed at consultation.

Is there any downtime?

No. Most people describe strong muscle contractions and warmth during the session and return to normal activities straight afterwards. Muscles may feel as though they have had a workout.

How we decide what’s right

Every plan starts with a consultation. We assess your suitability, discuss your goals and review your medical history before recommending anything — and we will tell you if a treatment isn’t right for you. If a prescription-only treatment may be appropriate, this will be discussed and assessed by an appropriately qualified prescriber before anything is prescribed.
