Small, benign skin growths — assessed and removed where suitable.
Skin tags are small, soft, benign growths of skin that commonly appear where skin rubs against skin or clothing — the neck, underarms, eyelids and body folds. They are harmless but can catch, snag or simply bother you cosmetically. At Feonix Aesthetics in Coventry, skin tags are assessed by a clinician and removed where appropriate.
Book a ConsultationA skin tag is a small flap of soft tissue that hangs from the skin by a narrow stalk. They are extremely common, entirely benign, and tend to appear in areas of friction — around the neck, under the arms, on the eyelids, under the breasts and in the groin. They can occur singly or in groups, and become more common with age.
Although harmless, skin tags can be a nuisance: they may catch on jewellery or clothing, become irritated, or simply be somewhere you would rather they weren't. Many people choose to have them removed for comfort or appearance.
Skin tags form where skin repeatedly rubs against itself or against clothing, which is why they cluster in folds and creases. They are more common with age, in pregnancy, and in people who carry more weight, and there can be a hereditary tendency. They are not contagious and are not a sign of anything sinister — but as with any skin lesion, they are assessed before treatment to confirm that removal is appropriate.
Treatment begins with a clinician confirming that the lesion is a skin tag suitable for cosmetic removal. Where it is, removal is straightforward and can usually be carried out efficiently. We will explain what is involved, what to expect during healing, and how to look after the area afterwards.
As with all skin lesions, if anything about the growth is atypical or needs medical review, we will say so rather than proceed. Assessment first, treatment second.
Skin tags are benign and harmless. They are removed for comfort or cosmetic reasons, not for medical necessity. That said, every skin lesion is assessed before treatment — if a growth is atypical or needs medical review, we will tell you rather than proceed.
It's best not to. Home removal risks bleeding, infection and scarring, and skips the assessment step that confirms the lesion is what you think it is. A clinician assessment is quick and means the area is treated safely.
Skin tag removal is generally very tidy, but how any skin heals varies from person to person. We explain what to expect and how to care for the area afterwards to give the best cosmetic result.
