Post-Pregnancy Abdominal Weakness
A weaker core after pregnancy — rebuilt with muscle conditioning once you are cleared.
Pregnancy stretches the abdominal wall, and many people find that their core feels weaker and less supported afterwards — even once they are back to their usual routine. At Feonix Aesthetics in Coventry, EMSculpt Neo is used to help rebuild abdominal muscle strength after pregnancy, but only once you have been medically cleared and we have assessed that it is suitable for you.
What it is
During pregnancy the abdominal muscles stretch to make room for the baby, and the deep core muscles that support your middle can lose strength. Afterwards, the stomach may feel soft or weak, everyday tasks such as lifting and carrying a baby can feel harder, and the core may not respond to exercise as quickly as before.
This is a very common part of recovering after a baby. This page is about rebuilding muscle strength; it is not about diagnosing or treating a medical condition.

Why it happens
The abdominal wall is stretched for months during pregnancy, and hormonal changes soften the connective tissue. After birth, the deep core muscles can be slow to switch back on, and broken sleep, the physical demands of a new baby and less time to exercise all play a part. Recovery is different for everyone.
How we assess it at Feonix
Timing comes first. We do not treat before your six-week postnatal check, and only once your GP or midwife has confirmed you are ready; after a caesarean we wait until you are fully healed and cleared. EMSculpt Neo is never carried out during pregnancy, and we cannot treat you while you are breastfeeding.
Your assessment includes a full medical history and a check of your core. Abdominal separation (diastasis recti) is common after pregnancy; where it is significant, or you have pain or pelvic symptoms, we will advise you to see your GP or a women's health physiotherapist first. Post-natal physiotherapy remains important, and we work alongside it, not instead of it.
What treatment can and cannot do
EMSculpt Neo triggers strong, involuntary contractions in the abdominal muscles, alongside radiofrequency warming, to help re-engage and rebuild the deep core over a course of sessions — without crunches or downtime. You can read more on our EMSculpt Neo after pregnancy page.
It is a muscle-strengthening treatment, not a medical treatment, and results vary from person to person. It does not replace post-natal physiotherapy or medical care. We explain the course and realistic expectations at your assessment.
Common questions about post-pregnancy abdominal weakness
When can I start after having a baby?
Not before your six-week postnatal check, and only once your GP or midwife has confirmed you are ready. After a caesarean we wait until you are fully healed and cleared. We will never rush this.
Can I have it while breastfeeding?
No. We cannot treat you while you are breastfeeding, and EMSculpt Neo is never carried out during pregnancy.
Does it replace post-natal physiotherapy?
No. Post-natal physiotherapy is important, particularly for pelvic-floor and core recovery. EMSculpt Neo can work alongside it to help rebuild muscle strength, but it is not a substitute.
What about abdominal separation?
Abdominal separation (diastasis recti) is common after pregnancy and is checked at your assessment. Where it is significant, we will advise you to see your GP or a women's health physiotherapist first, and we will tell you honestly whether EMSculpt Neo is suitable.
How do I start?
Book a consultation at our Coventry clinic (15 Little Park Street). We confirm your medical clearance, assess your core and explain whether a course is right for you. Clients come to us from across the Midlands.
How we decide what’s right
Every plan starts with a consultation. We assess your suitability, discuss your goals and review your medical history before recommending anything — and we will tell you if a treatment isn’t right for you. If a prescription-only treatment may be appropriate, this will be discussed and assessed by an appropriately qualified prescriber before anything is prescribed.
